Size Guide

Because the right fit is where confidence begins.

At Soonyachi, we want every piece you order to feel like it was made for you. Indian ethnic wear follows different sizing conventions from Western clothing — always refer to your measurements rather than the label you normally pick.

All measurements below are in inches. If you fall between two sizes, we recommend sizing up — ethnic garments are easier to take in than let out.

How to Measure Yourself

Use a soft measuring tape. Stand naturally, without shoes, and measure over light-fitted clothing or innerwear.

Bust

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level across your back. Do not pull tight — it should sit snug but comfortable.

Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, typically 1–2 inches above your navel.

Hip

Measure around the fullest part of your hips, approximately 7–8 inches below your natural waist.

Shoulder Width

Measure from the tip of one shoulder to the other across your upper back. This matters most for structured indo-western silhouettes.

Length

For kurtis, measure from the highest point of your shoulder down to where you’d like the hem to fall. For saree petticoats, measure from waist to ankle.

Kurti & Kurta Sets

Our kurtis are designed with a relaxed fit with approximately 1–2 inches of ease built in at the bust.

Size Bust (in) Waist (in) Hip (in) Length (in)
XS (32) 32–33 26–27 35–36 44–46
S (34) 34–35 28–29 37–38 44–46
M (36) 36–37 30–31 39–40 44–46
L (38) 38–39 32–33 41–42 46–48
XL (40) 40–41 34–35 43–44 46–48
XXL (42) 42–43 36–37 45–46 46–48
3XL (44) 44–45 38–39 47–48 48–50

Note: For heavily embroidered or structured kurtis, consider sizing up as embellishments can reduce ease.

Saree Blouses

Saree blouses are sized numerically (32, 34, 36…) based on your bust measurement. The blouse is cut with minimal ease — approximately 0.5–1 inch — for a fitted, supportive drape.

Bust (in) Blouse Size Under-Bust (in) Blouse Length (in)
32 32 27–28 13–14
34 34 29–30 13–14
36 36 31–32 14–15
38 38 33–34 14–15
40 40 35–36 15–16
42 42 37–38 15–16
44 44 39–40 15–16

Saree Petticoats

Our saree petticoats come with a drawstring waist, making them adjustable across most sizes. Select based on your hip measurement and preferred length.

  • S / M: Hip up to 40 inches
  • L / XL: Hip 40–46 inches
  • XXL / 3XL: Hip 46–52 inches
  • Standard length: 39–40 inches (floor-grazing for 5‘5–5’4 height range). Custom lengths available on request.

Indo-Western Outfits

Indo-western silhouettes — coord sets, dhoti pants, cape sets — include 4 inches of ease at the bust and waist as standard, following Indian tailoring convention.

Size Bust (in) Waist (in) Hip (in)
XS (32) 32–33 26–27 35–36
S (34) 34–35 28–29 37–38
M (36) 36–37 30–31 39–40
L (38) 38–39 32–33 41–42
XL (40) 40–41 34–35 43–44
XXL (42) 42–43 36–37 45–46
3XL (44) 44–45 38–39 47–48

For palazzo and dhoti bottoms with elasticated or drawstring waists, sizing is flexible — refer to hip measurement as your primary guide.

Fit Tips

  • Indian ethnic sizing runs smaller than US/UK equivalents. An Indian L is typically equivalent to a US M.
  • Pure cotton garments may shrink up to half an inch after the first wash — size up if you’re between sizes.
  • If you are in between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.
  • For heavily embellished pieces (zari, mirror work, sequins), the fabric has less stretch — size up for ease of movement.
